RIP to the pod, an announcement

RIP to the pod, an announcement

Hi Ghoul Friends. Let me first apologize for the abruptness of this announcement. I want you to know I thought about this for a very long time. And I spent too much time bargaining before it became too much. I love you all and I'm so grateful. I don't know if this will last for months, a year, several, or forever. But I do know I need to put the microphone down for now.

Patrons, if you would like to request a refund for August, you can find information on that here:
https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021113811-How-to-request-a-refund

The podcast, website, and Patreon will remain online as an archive. You can also adjust your tier if you'd like to contribute to the cost of keeping those the archive open.

I will remain on social media and am still open to work as a folklorist, emcee, and other one-off opportunities. I just can't continue the full production of the show.

Thank you again, I appreciate your support through these 8 magical years. More than you could ever know.

- Adrian...or Ayden

1
00:00:24.239 --> 00:00:29.000
Hey, cool friend, it's me Adrian or Aiden. Either way,

2
00:00:29.320 --> 00:00:32.439
I have been your host and you have been listening

3
00:00:32.479 --> 00:00:36.920
to Susto, a podcast about paranormal folklore from Latin American cultures.

4
00:00:37.359 --> 00:00:39.679
I'm going to have the band aid off because I

5
00:00:39.679 --> 00:00:42.759
don't know how else to do this, but effective immediately,

6
00:00:43.359 --> 00:00:50.679
I am halting production on the podcast indefinitely. This comes

7
00:00:50.759 --> 00:00:57.920
after many months of grappling with myself of thinking about this,

8
00:00:59.159 --> 00:01:02.079
and I think I think if you are an active

9
00:01:02.119 --> 00:01:06.879
listener of the show, then you may have noticed these

10
00:01:07.000 --> 00:01:12.000
last couple of weeks. It feels like I've been scrambling

11
00:01:12.120 --> 00:01:17.719
to keep this going, but I wish I had a

12
00:01:17.719 --> 00:01:20.000
better reason other than I just can't do it anymore.

13
00:01:20.719 --> 00:01:25.159
The biggest reason that I've made this decision is because

14
00:01:26.359 --> 00:01:29.799
I had hoped that after all this time, I would

15
00:01:29.840 --> 00:01:33.920
have built a team around this project, and I haven't

16
00:01:33.959 --> 00:01:38.719
been able to accomplish that. And because of that, this

17
00:01:38.840 --> 00:01:43.640
isn't sustainable anymore for me. For the sake of my

18
00:01:43.719 --> 00:01:46.480
well being, for the sake of my mental health, I

19
00:01:46.480 --> 00:01:48.799
don't think this is something that I can continue doing.

20
00:01:49.879 --> 00:01:53.840
For eight years, which is about a quarter of my life.

21
00:01:54.319 --> 00:01:58.519
I have been producing this show independently. I've taught myself

22
00:01:58.560 --> 00:02:03.079
a lot. I've learned a lot, and I'm so very

23
00:02:03.120 --> 00:02:08.680
grateful to everyone who's been part of this. As you

24
00:02:08.759 --> 00:02:12.240
all know, I have a full time job that is

25
00:02:12.280 --> 00:02:16.159
not sustle. I've said it time and time again. If

26
00:02:16.199 --> 00:02:18.680
I could do this as my job, if this could

27
00:02:18.719 --> 00:02:22.000
be my full time thing, it would, But I can't.

28
00:02:22.080 --> 00:02:26.080
And in a sense that that was a lie. That

29
00:02:26.199 --> 00:02:29.240
was wrong because it is a full time thing. This

30
00:02:29.479 --> 00:02:34.120
was my second job, and it's very hard to have

31
00:02:34.360 --> 00:02:38.120
essentially two jobs and to try and still be a person.

32
00:02:40.080 --> 00:02:42.960
It's gotten to the point where it started to feel

33
00:02:43.159 --> 00:02:47.360
like it wasn't fun anymore. And I only want to

34
00:02:47.400 --> 00:02:51.439
remember this experience as being something fun, as something that

35
00:02:51.520 --> 00:02:55.280
I really enjoyed, and I worry that if I were

36
00:02:55.319 --> 00:02:59.960
to keep this going, I would start to resent it. Initially,

37
00:03:00.080 --> 00:03:02.719
my plan was to finish out the rest of the year,

38
00:03:03.479 --> 00:03:07.560
to go through December. Unfortunately, like I mentioned earlier, for

39
00:03:07.599 --> 00:03:09.919
the sake of my mental health, I realized that I

40
00:03:10.000 --> 00:03:16.280
can't keep doing it. I feel awful for saying I'm tired,

41
00:03:19.240 --> 00:03:23.919
but I am, and I wish it wasn't. I don't

42
00:03:23.919 --> 00:03:26.120
want to drag this on so I want to say

43
00:03:26.199 --> 00:03:30.719
thank you to my family and my friends for all

44
00:03:30.759 --> 00:03:33.000
the support that you've showed me these last eight years.

45
00:03:34.319 --> 00:03:36.080
I want to say thank you to you all for

46
00:03:36.240 --> 00:03:42.319
listening to the show, for sharing the love of storytelling

47
00:03:42.360 --> 00:03:46.080
that I have shared. I want to say thank you

48
00:03:46.120 --> 00:03:50.360
to everyone who has given me advice, who has asked

49
00:03:50.400 --> 00:03:54.400
me for advice, who has mentored me, who has invited

50
00:03:54.439 --> 00:04:01.120
me out for an event, for fun, for creative And

51
00:04:01.159 --> 00:04:06.560
I said indefinitely earlier because as we know, nothing is

52
00:04:07.599 --> 00:04:11.800
one certain. I don't know what the future holds. I

53
00:04:11.800 --> 00:04:15.560
don't know if maybe one day I will pick up

54
00:04:15.599 --> 00:04:20.839
the microphone again, but for now I cannot sustain a

55
00:04:20.879 --> 00:04:27.879
full production. That being said, I am still going to

56
00:04:27.920 --> 00:04:32.839
be around. I'm still a folklorist, so I will try

57
00:04:32.879 --> 00:04:36.959
to maintain my social media presence. I will be available

58
00:04:37.160 --> 00:04:45.480
for one off and freelance work. I guess. So if

59
00:04:45.839 --> 00:04:48.000
you would still like to see me at an event

60
00:04:48.279 --> 00:04:52.519
or invite me to be a guest on something or

61
00:04:52.680 --> 00:04:56.199
to ems or present, I would still love to do

62
00:04:56.240 --> 00:04:59.759
those things again. I just I can't commit to a

63
00:05:00.160 --> 00:05:04.199
production like this anymore. So you can still follow me

64
00:05:04.240 --> 00:05:08.480
on social media. I will still be there. It'll I

65
00:05:08.519 --> 00:05:12.000
will probably be better at responding now because I won't

66
00:05:12.040 --> 00:05:18.240
have this entire thing to work on and worry about

67
00:05:18.240 --> 00:05:23.279
when I'm not working on it. The show itself will

68
00:05:23.680 --> 00:05:29.319
remain online, the website will stay up, and the Patreon

69
00:05:29.759 --> 00:05:34.639
will also stay open. However, no new content will be

70
00:05:34.720 --> 00:05:37.600
posted on there. So if you want the archive of

71
00:05:37.759 --> 00:05:44.399
ad free episodes, of videos, of the scripts and documents

72
00:05:44.560 --> 00:05:47.360
and all of that stuff that existed on Patreon that

73
00:05:47.439 --> 00:05:50.720
will stay open, feel free to sign up. If you

74
00:05:50.800 --> 00:05:55.560
are a Patreon subscriber, feel free to cancel. The Patreon

75
00:05:55.680 --> 00:06:00.560
will again exist as an archive, and it will be

76
00:06:00.680 --> 00:06:05.319
used to keep the show online and to keep the

77
00:06:05.360 --> 00:06:09.519
website up again. I'm around. You know where to find me.

78
00:06:10.959 --> 00:06:12.759
Somebody asked me if this was a good or a

79
00:06:12.800 --> 00:06:17.120
bad thing, if I was happy or sad. Then I

80
00:06:17.160 --> 00:06:21.079
said both. I don't want to do it, but I

81
00:06:21.120 --> 00:06:24.680
feel like I need to. I need I need, I

82
00:06:24.680 --> 00:06:32.160
need some time. So I'm very sorry for the abrupt notice,

83
00:06:32.360 --> 00:06:36.439
but again, this wasn't my initial plan. Thank you for

84
00:06:36.639 --> 00:06:40.000
your understanding, thank you for your patience, thank you for

85
00:06:41.160 --> 00:06:44.680
eight years of doing this. Like I said, I did

86
00:06:44.759 --> 00:06:47.480
have a great time and I wanted it to stay

87
00:06:47.480 --> 00:06:49.920
a great time. So I don't know what the future

88
00:06:49.920 --> 00:06:52.600
hold and I can't promise that I will be back

89
00:06:52.959 --> 00:06:59.240
doing this, but stranger things happen every day, right. Thank

90
00:06:59.279 --> 00:07:02.439
you so much for listening. You know where to find me,

91
00:07:03.199 --> 00:08:06.399
and until then, not dead soustics. Bye,
